Sudden Glacier Burst at Birendra Lake Sparks Devastating Flash Floods

Gorakha's Chumnubri Rural municipality Birendra Lake has experienced a sudden surge in water levels due to a glacier burst, triggering flash floods in the lower regions.

Authorities report that the flood has washed away a bridge connecting Samdu and Samagaun. The district police chief, Basudev Pathak, confirmed that a police team was dispatched to the affected area upon receiving reports of rising water levels in the lake. However, upon arrival, it was discovered that the lake hadn't burst but rather the water overflowed due to a glacier collapse.

Further investigations revealed that the flood had damaged infrastructure in the area, including roads and bridges. Bholanath Dahal, the chief district officer, emphasized the need for caution in the affected regions and urged residents to remain vigilant.
